Chow Wagons

Two visits to the Chow Wagon in two days. Two chocolate malts in two days. No amount of running errands or yard work can keep the weight off if I keep this up. Jeezy Chreezy, look at that weight!!! One. Seven. Seven. I haven't seen that in quite a while (thanks to this blog thang in this here Interwebs I can tell it was actually January 14th). I'm going to enact my secret exercise scheme soon... PUKING. LOL, no - I kid. But I do have a plan. And I'm curious as to whether or not it will work. I'm going to call it my Secret EXercise Scheme. Or my SEX Scheme. Oh hell! I'm just joking!!! I'm not going to call it that (mostly because that is not an activity included in the regimen). But it is sneaky and hope it will work. More on that later...

The Crazy Nastyass Honey Badger

The Crazy Nastyass Honey Badger (original narration by Randall)

Some people at work were passing this link around. I watched it several times (including again just now - well, not just now as you read this but just *now* as I type this) and I'm still LOL'ing at that Crazy Nastyass Honey Badger.

If you liked Randall's narration you may also find his other episodes funny. I particularly liked his Water Chevrotains Are Adorable, Crowned Eagles are Nasty one.

Strep, my inner lesbian, Mario and the Princess, Lambda leader, and 5-year olds

Poor Jooj has strep. I feel bad for her. She's been a sick little grrrl this school year.

I listened to enough Ani Difranco today to get my inner lesbian all in an uproar. I want to go hate on some men and empower myself now. Grrrl power!

I was watching the news tonight and someone in St. Matthews was murdered - their first in 6 years. An eye-witness was briefly interviewed on the screen. His shirt caught my eye so I rewound the DVR. With Gawd as my witness I swear it was a t-shirt depicting Mario (of Super Mario Brother fame) giving it anally to Princess Peach. I shit you not. I watched it several times. Jooj saw it too and can testify. WTF? How the hell did that make it past the censors??? LOLOLOLOLOL!!!

Geek time! In CoH tonight I was the co-leader of my first Lambda run. There are two new trials that max level characters can run. I've been playing them pretty heavily this week. We wanted to join a team but no one was forming. So we formed our own and had a great run.

Lastly, and maybe even funnier than the Mario and Princess Peach t-shirt (but only *just*), I was online tonight playing CoH and we were standing around bantering about stupid stuff - just normal chatter. I'm a funny and friendly guy so I participate as often as I can. This particular exchange was particularly funny, albeit a bit darkly humorous (hilarious to me though). Please bear in mind that this is paraphrased. There was plenty of other chatting and I didn't have a way to save any of it:

Player #1: So how many 5-year olds do you think you could take on?
Player #2: At once?
Player #1: Yeah
Player #3: Can we fight dirty?
Player #1: Sure, if you mean dirtier than beating up 5-year olds.
Player #2: Hmm
(pause)
Me: All of them
(longer pause)
Player #1: That is an acceptable answer

I'm still LOL'ing over that :)

Toyota Highlander commercial really pisses me off

Gawd, I'm going to sound like an old man grumbling while he shakes his cane in the air. Here we go...

There is this commercial for the Toyota Highlander called "Kid Cave". In it, a Toyota Highlander occupied by a child and his parents pull up to a red car with another child and his parents. The boys know each other and exchange greetings. The kid in the red car complains that his parents have been singing the same song for three hours. The parents in the red car are singing "Angel of the Morning". The kid in the Highlander shakes his head in disgust, places some headphones on, and tunes into a show that is playing on the LCD in his Highlander.

Some people on the Interwebs have complained how elitist the commercial is, implying that a child cannot have fun in a car unless it is decked out with audio and video stimulation. Perhaps, but that's not the beef I have with the commercial. What gets my goat is the program the Highlander kid is watching.

It depicts a cartoon of a bipedal dog wearing a super hero costume. Harmless, right? Sure, but then a spray of machine gun bullets are fired at his chest and they are harmlessly deflected.

Seriously?

As a society, we are so nonchalant with gun violence that it's okay for that depiction to be used? I mean, the imagery on the screen must've been an afterthought to the real message behind the commercial. And cartoon gunfire qualified as harmless and non-offensive enough to make it? Really? We couldn't show some puppets teaching us the letter Q? It couldn't be some animated show of some funny-looking kids acting silly? It couldn't simply be some nature programming? Gunfire? Test groups saw that and no one raised any serious concerns? Gunfire?!?!

Whatever.

Guns, nickels, Battlefront, and the ol' gang

What a day! It started off with me being late to an "appointment" (more on that later perhaps). Why was I late? I had to take an alternative route because A CAR CRASHED INTO A LOCAL GUN STORE IN AN ATTEMPT TO ROB IT. You read that in capital letters correctly. How bogus is that?

(Did I just use the word bogus? TOTALLY BOGUS!)

Later in the day, after rummaging through my pocket full of two nickels (had to pay the meter for my "appointment" that I may or may not mention again), I pulled out my coinage and noticed one of them wasn't even a real nickel. Or was it? The face looked like Jefferson but it was funky. Did we get a new nickel? We must have. I looked to see when it was minted...

2005

Really? It's been that long since I've carried a nickel? Wow. I used to let people keep the change. And then got married and just threw spare change into a change bowl. How can something like that get by me? I notice the tiniest details... just miss the most obvious ones sometimes (I'm thinking about your haircuts, Jooj!!!).

Soooooo, ye ol' rumor mill is cranking up again regarding Star Wars: Battlefront 3 game development. LucasArts made a multi-game deal with Epic Games to use their Unreal 3 game engine for an undisclosed number of titles. At the top of my "want" list would be, of course, Star Wars: Battlefront 3. A close second would be Star Wars: Republic Commando 2. Fuck any Jedi games. I want clonetrooper and stormtrooper action!

Lastly, the new soccer session started tonight and it was quite a pleasure to see two old faces - Ricardo and Tony. The old team (which dominated back in the day) is almost back together again. And it showed. We played a very good team and demolished them 8-4 (two goals were deflections that I could've saved had they not been). It felt good to win so well again.

As for that "appointment"... hmm...

The Easter I Will Never Forget

I woke up this morning with a raw stomach. And who does that really surprise? After eating what I ate yesterday and dumping so much caffeine down the gullet I was bound to have some stomach issues. I thought to myself, "I better take a Protonix. I don't want today to be one of *those* days!"

Well, before I could even do that it turned into one of *those* days.

I went down to the basement to let the dogs out and we were flooded. It was early in the seeping of water from the drain but water was on the move and on the rise. I was able to move everything out of the way but the water was coming quickly. I used the hose to try and dislodge what may or may not have been blocking it. I shifted the sump pump cover to see if I could determine a problem. I flipped circuit breakers. I wiggled pipes. Dad came over and ran through the same processes. Somewhere along the way we dislodged *something* and the pump cranked out water like it did another time this happened. Stressful morning, sure, but overall catastrophe averted.

Oddly enough, it was only minutes after my adrenaline had begun to dissipate that Jooj noticed the preliminary stage of an ant invasion in our den. Are you F'ing kidding me? I hadn't even digested the basement flooding victory and this was happening? We sprayed. We killed. We Swiffered. Sheesh!

And after all of this, we were still able to go to both Easter celebrations (albeit empty-handed) and spend a wonderful (rest of the) day with family on both sides. I love 'em all and was tickled to see so many loving members of my fam! Happy Easter!

The key to being happy - in Java

As a programmer, I have to write logic and store data in different languages and environments all the time - HTML, Java, JavaScript, shell script, kjb, BIRT, and XML. A premise I was trying to get across today can be written in Java like this:

int maxHappiness = 100;
int happiness = Integer.parseInt(yourWholeLifeBean.getHappinessAmount());
int satisficationInLife = 0;
if (happiness > 0) {
satisfactionInLife = maxHappiness * (happiness/maxHappiness);
}

Operation Concretin Catch-Up: Mission Accomplished

I blog here mostly but also blog on another site: Concretins.com. It's my old skate buddies blogging about this session or that road trip. It's been around for years. When I login to blog, I hit a dashboard page where I choose which blog to view or post in. Well, since they've been around so long they've always had so many more posts than I have. No longer!

I started the night with 438 posts on this blog and 438 posts on Concretins.com. This will officially put me ahead by 1 post. A small milestone (if a milestone at all actually), but something I've always had my eye on.

This is also post 111 of 2011. That's a lot of ones!

What a weird day. My work PC is almost back to normal. So that's good. But every grrrl I knew today had some kind of meltdown. Okay, not every one I knew, but a lot of them - at work and at home. What was up with today?!?!

Blue Screen... of DEATH

Well, that nasty storm last night knocked out power at work. I came into work this morning and my computer was off. I restarted it. Nope - blue screen of death. So I turned it off and restarted it. Nope - blue screen of death. Again I turned it off and restarted it. Nope - blue screen of death.

Long story short, my computer is fried and I didn't get a chance to work on any of the 14 things I need to have done by this Friday. Hells bells!

4.0

Kelsey has once again proven that she is as smart as I always knew she was (but was too lazy/stubborn/unaware of it until her Senior year) by bringing home a 4.0. I love that grrrl!

It also bears mentioning that it is way too late to be up. But I'm all jacked up after listening intently to the weather radio as a nasty storm tore through the region.

It also bears mentioning that I am having a ton of fun with the new content in Issue 20 for City of Heroes.

Another busy Sunday

Woke up. Went to Kroger. Went to Sam's. Came home and unloaded. Went to Target. Made lunch and ate. Put shelves together. Left to go pick up Eddie Dinero. Went to mom and dad's. Picked up the truck. Went to Home Depot. Went to mom and dad's. Cut and ripped wood. Dropped off Eddie Dinero and the wood. Dropped the truck off at mom and dad's. Came home. Picked up Jooj. Went to Home Depot. Picked up ferns and begonias. Came home and mowed. Dug up a plant. Put down some top soil. Fed the fish. Knocked back two beers and admired it all (it was good). Brushed the dogs. Showered. Ate leftovers from lunch. Hung out with Will. Hung out with Kelsey. Helped Kelsey print out her stuff. Created a picture of Vladimir Putin. Watched Will play video games. Tucked in Jooj. Tucked in Kels. Tucked in Will. Played CoH. Dreamt of a day well spent.

Thunder, Thunder, Thunder

Jooj and I are watching this year's Thunder Over Louisville at the moment (on television - not live). I must say that I am very much enjoying the show this year. The musical selection seems very well-thought out and not the hodgepodge of country songs and pop. It's mostly movie and show themes mixed with some anthems. The fireworks seem very well coordinated this year and are quite impressive. This one is really fun to watch (I admit I'm not into it most years).

Thunder Over Louisville means that Derby is on the way. And Derby means that warm weather is on the way. Yay!

BTW, I've always heard that Thunder Over Louisville is the largest annual fireworks show in the North American. A few people (I now realize they may have been L'ville haters) over the years have scoffed at that notion. Well, according to the Interwebs, that statement is correct:

Plenty of small stuff happened today (5th production deploy in 5 days at work, Jooj had a meeting with a nasty parent, I lead my first Sister Psyche Task Force in CoH) but nothing outshines the fact that the Chase Visa was paid off in full this morning.

Your Highness, Blues, Poker, and Deploys

I went and saw the movie Your Highness last night with my cousin. I may seem juvenile saying this but I actually enjoyed it. It is a comedy set in a fantasy world. But it isn't making fun of the fantasy genre as much as it seems to pay homage to it. Imagine the sword and sorcery movies from the '80s with a punch of modern-day cursing and some humor and that's what Your Highness is. It's like Krull or Beastmaster or Clash of the Titans with a bunch of dick jokes and stuff. It may not work for everyone but it worked for me!

Sadly, the L'ville Blues ended the post-season losing out the to T'wolves. I had a great regular season run but in the end could not pull out a win during the post-season. However, finishing 3rd overall and 4th in the post-season is a good thing for my rookie year as an NBL coach and I'm looking forward to more.

My boss plays online poker. I used to play poker every week so he and I talk strategies sometimes. Well, he won a tournament that allows him to enter a mini-satellite tournament. This mini-satellite is giving out 75 seats to a satellite tournament on Sunday. So the top 75 players get automatic bids. That satellite tournament pays over $400K to the winner and pays money out to the 1980th player ($300). I'm excited for him!

Lastly, I'm beat. We've had three production deploys at work in three days. I think we're on schedule for another today. That's just insane. I need another vacation!

Queen Rumblebee dings 50

**Full-blown Geek Alert Begin**

I've mentioned in posts before that I play the game City of Heroes. I've blogged about my main hero and my first level 50 character, Agent Hotspur, being a Hamidon raid leader. I mentioned in passing when my main villain, Doctor Obliteron, hit level 50. I'm a geek. What can I say?

Last night, my second character ever created, Queen Rumblebee, dinged 50! Normally there is much pomp and circumstance with such accomplishments. But last night I was only playing with one of my friends. And oddly enough, his connection had dropped so it was just me. I hadn't realized she was so close or else I would have made the push already.

You see, 50 is the level cap in City of Heroes. Once you hit 50 your progress, to some degree, is stopped. Any progression beyond that is not the leaps and bounds earlier experienced but is incremental and requires work. The makers of CoH have added bonus content and unlockable powers with new Issues and I will probably work towards reaching some of those. So this character is by no means retired. Rather she has reached the mountain's peak... and it is good.

Next in line, in this order, should be the butcherous Bozo the Butcher, the magical Scarecrow King, the fire-breathing Pyrannorsaurus Rex, the heroic Eddie the Yeti, and many others down the line.

Biggest Loser - Did I win?

Answer: I don't know. We were still waiting on all of the contestants to weigh in when I left today.

But I did manage to shed 12 pounds over the course of the last 13 weeks, totally 6.444% body fat lost. That is not quite as impressive as my herculean feat last year but still admirable all the same. Stay tuned. Hopefully we'll know something tomorrow.

Fasting

I literally didn't have the energy to post last night. In an effort to wrap up this Biggest Loser competition I began a 48 hour fast. As previously mentioned, I love food, so this was only a partial fast. In the last 48 hours I've drunk plenty of liquids along with a serving of oatmeal, two servings of pasta, two packages of peanuts, and a handful of pretzels. We'll see if it paid off in a couple of hours.

Post 100 in 2011

Unless I cheated somewhere (admittedly I have fudged some days along the way) this is my 100th post of 2011 and should also represent the 100th day of the year. I am too lazy to check so I'll go off my assumption.

I'm going to take this opportunity to recap progress (or lack thereof) on my New Year resolutions.

1. Pay off the Chase Visa this year.

We started the year off with that sucker at 83% charged to the limit, leaving only 17% "paid off" (my logic is weird there but it makes sense). Jooj and I have made some cuts, curbed some spending, and made moves to pay off 95.88% of the balance so far. Unless some financial crisis hits us next week we are going to make the final payment on Friday. I am very proud of us.

2. Stay below 175 lbs. I started Biggest Loser last year at 188. I ended at 164. I've since put 10 pounds back on (it took 10 months so it isn't too bad but still a trend I want to reverse).

I've altered my diet to make this happen. But I've been fluctuating lately. I believe I need to balance my diet with exercise, which I have not done as well as I could. The warm weather will allow me to skate in the mornings before work. And I'm playing soccer Tuesday nights. I would not only like to see that weight stay below 175 but would rather it hover closer to 170. I'd be a pretty lean machine then. Besides, Biggest Loser ends this week so we'll see how it all pans out.

3. Finish (hell, begin!) work on my comic book idea. It will be a blast putting it together. It will be a huge accomplishment for me (that will more than likely never amount to anything other than points in pride). And Granny would've loved it. I'm thinking of a 4-part mini-series at 32 pages each. Woo... that sounds like a lot. Wish me luck.

For whatever reason this hasn't even begun. Maybe it never will. Maybe it's a pipe dream. I don't want to be "that guy" that talks the talk without walking the walk. I've talked about this comic book idea for years. I've already done two. I know I can do it. I just have to get off my ass and **do** it.

4. Paint 50 pieces in 2011. That sounds crazy but I know it's doable. I've painted 100 pieces over the last few years and I've done it at a very leisure pace. If anything, it could get a wee bit expensive. However, I'm going to start off in good shape as I kick off this resolution with six pieces I'm finishing this week.

I started with good intentions. But I've fallen off. This isn't done yet. I still feel pretty good about it. I just haven't been in the mood to paint for whatever reason. Commissions have dried up. Maybe that has something to do with it. I always work best when I'm juggling projects.

5? Blog more. I don't really know what that means. I was thinking initially everyday. But that's a lot. And I may even bore myself at that rate. Not sure on that one.

Big check. This is one I thought would waiver off pretty quickly. But no, it hasn't and it's been quite fun.

I'm rearranging my footer to better match the original order of my resolutions. I'm tacking the Biggest Loser number on the end but it will be coming off this week.

Archer - Season 3... WOOHOO!!! (and other stuff)

FX ordered a 3rd season of 16 episodes of Archer. Hells yeah!!

I am doing everything opposite of what I should be doing in the final days of the Biggest Loser competition. I had Krispy Kreme, Taco Bell, and more Krispy Kreme today. I'm such a fatty :)

The L'ville Blues, barring a miracle, are not going to win the FBL consolation match. Boo!

Started and finished a fleur de lis painting for Jooj. We're both very happy with it.

ear X-tacy

I walked into ear X-tacy tonight, the first time since they nearly shut down and were forced to relocate, and I was very sad.

I remember walking into Tower Records in Manhattan back in 2001. Everyone said that Tower Records was the premiere music store in the universe (well, that may be an exaggeration). I remember flipping through their selection. Walking up the stairs to the second floor. Checking out the scene. And I remember distinctly that the impression I got was that Tower Records only *wished* it could be as cool as ear X-tacy. And back then, that was probably true.

Not these days. Lo, poor ear X-tacy is but a shell of it's former self - a whisper of the great noise that was once ear X-tacy.

TGITh

It's Thursday. No big deal except that I have tomorrow off. I'm pretty psyched about a 3-day weekend. I feel a little guilty since we have a MAJOR deploy on the cusp of going out at work but I originally wanted to take off both days, so I see this as a compromise. Plus I was hating my job today - a rare thing. It was just a frustrating day filled with... frustrations :)

Went to the dentist today. No cavities. Hells yeah!

And I either have a massive minefield of zits working their way to the surface of my entire chin or that shot I took to the face in soccer the other night was much harder than I realized.

Why did I buy that incubator?

I now have eighteen reasons sitting at a warm 83 degrees. I've been checking on Pandora pretty closely these last few days. Her belly was swollen and she's been practicing her digging skills. I popped my head in Will's room after dinner and saw an uncovered egg. I knew more were buried. So the race was on to find them and get those suckers put away.

All eighteen eggs were healthy looking, slightly soft, bright white, ovular eggs. So much of a difference between those gray, shriveled, egg-like things Pandora shat out the first go around. We got the eggs as soon as they were pooped out. We have the proper equipment. We've learned lessons along the way. I feel good about seeing baby beardies in 2 months!

Chatter

I signed up for Chatter today. Imagine Facebook if it were limited just to your work peeps and that is what Chatter is. I'm trying to be jazzed about it. But the thing is I don't really give two shits about Facebook. So why should I care about Chatter?

"But you update your status on Facebook all the time," you may say.

"*I* don't, ", would be my response. "That's my wife."

I'll play along for now with Chatter. If it catches on with everyone maybe it will increase productivity. If use falls, or if I think it is actually detracting from productivity, then you can rest assured that I will be an early "un-adopter" :)

On an unrelated note, look at fatty's weight shoot up. Gawd, I love burgers and bacon and beer and cookies and ice cream. I've gotta get my shit together though. This is the last week of Biggest Loser!

Bacon Cheeseburgers

I find it humorous that I ate a bacon cheeseburger for dinner but instead of actually ingesting beef and swine both meats were derivatives of the tasty turkey.

Jam-Packed Sunday

So much happened today that I will have to sum up the whole day into a bulleted format:

* I saved more than I ever have at the grocery - 27%. My bill went from $103 to $78 after coupons and such. I RULE!!!

* Yard work was the theme today. We mowed. We raked. I dug. I sucked. I bagged. I unnetted the pond. I added approximately 300 gallons to it.

* Boba ate my sunglasses. These were the same Oakleys that he gnawed on as a puppy. They are now mortally wounded. I was very mad.

* Boba will be attending training classes soon.

* I kept hearing a sharp chirp while in the yard. I knew it was the hawk but couldn't find it in the sky. Jooj noticed it sitting in the higest nest in the big oak in the back yard. Very cool!

* The dogs got baths. Not really worth it's own bullet but it can be quite an undertaking.

* Enjoyed some beer on my back patio with my wife and doggies. We pulled out their dog beds while they chilled out with us. It felt very much like a "retiree" moment.

Cats lost, Blues winning

I got off work at 5. Big deal, right? It wouldn't be if it weren't Saturday. Guh! The good news is that I cranked through some work and am hopefully going to be in good shape to take off next Thursday and Friday for Spring Break.

Those poor Cats lost last night. UK just looked horrible last night. Their shooting was bad and they looked like a young, inexperienced team. It's too bad but it happens.

The L'ville Blues are doing well in the FBL consolation game. I'm leading 5-4 after a week and am comfortably ahead in the categories I'm winning in. I've made some moves to overtake my opponent in rebounds so we'll see how that fairs over the coming week.

Sorry I didn't blog yesterday. You can blame Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy. Gawd, I love those things!

Auto-Tune + News Clips + YouTube = Hilarity

Back in August, my buddy Mike turned me onto The Bed Intruder song. If you have never heard it, please do yourself and everyone around you a favor and watch Antoine Dodson here:

The Bed Intruder Song

That same buddy, Mike, just sent me another bit of hilarity - The Backin' Up Song. Please check it out here for the fun:

I want to blog about something much more serious but I shan't. Grrrr!

Glee-ified Grey's Anatomy? No thank you!

Last night's Grey's Anatomy will be the last episode I watch if they continue the musical theme. I swear, if I wanted to watch Glee I'd watch Glee. Whoever came up with the idea of making the Grey's Anatomy musical episode should be shot. Literally. Okay, not literally. But they should be punched. In the face. Or the nuts. Or both. Literally.
