Ramp is gone... Olympics are Over

I watched the Gold medal Ice Hockey game between the USA and Canada today. It was a nail-biter but a game that I truly feel the Canucks deserved to win. It went into overtime after the US team tied it up with 24 seconds left in regulation. It was a good game.

Earlier in the day, OMP and his wife Dana came by and the micro-ramp in the basement was dismantled and hauled off to their Georgetown home. I hate to see it go but I am so, so happy to know that it is going to a new home.

I'm still losing weight for our Biggest Loser competition at work. I've lost 14.4 pounds to date. I really don't think I'll be losing any more significant weight but I'll continue to try.

Not to change subjects on you (or get gross) but...

This is my blog. You may read it. You may not. But I do. And I like to go back and read stuff from time to time. So this post is more for me and not really so much for you. But in case you do want to read, this is a portion of an email I send Jooj last week...

Not to change subjects on you (or get gross) but...

I’m kind of tired of the small amount of food I'm eating these days and subsequently small deposits I'm making in the bathroom. I miss the gigantic logs that used to come crashing through like runaway bullet trains. Instead, I'm stuck with oddly shaped turds unsuccessfully clawing their way out of my anus like crabs from a boiling pot.

That's kind of funny. I may blog that :)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

And so I have. This Biggest Loser competition at work was really wearing me down. However, somebody told me I was in first place (they were in fourth). I checked and it turns out that I actually am! I've lost 11.2 pounds, or 5.94%. My resolve has been strengthened!

Five weeks to go... five weeks until "log" time :D

Worst. Move. Ever.

I just sat through the worst movie ever. Worse than The Lake House? Hell yeah. Worse than The Notebook? Definitely. Worse than The Triplets of Belleville? By leaps and bounds.

So you are probably thinking to yourself, "Wow! What kind of chick flick did Jooj make him sit through?"

You've got it all wrong. This wasn't a chick flick. You are not going to believe this, but it was actually an action movie showing on SyFy. I looked into it and it turns out it is the most expensive movie ever to come out of Korea (who seem to have the horror genre locked these days, but not monster action flicks). The movie in question is...

Dragon Wars.

Horrible. Rubbish. Shit.

This movie had such a crazy plot (not crazy meaning "I couldn't keep up" or even crazy meaning "insane"... I mean it was bat-shit ludicrous). The acting was pretty bad. The humor was stupid and really detracted from what little movie was there. In fact, I found myself laughing harder when the actors were trying to act serious. Shit, I can't even begin to relay the plot. Dragons and mystical armies and the military and whacko FBI agents and... oh, forget it.

The movie is shit. And yet I couldn't pull myself away. It was utter bologna. Easily, the worst movie I have ever seen.

Happy Heart Day!

It's Valentine's Day today. It's also my anniversary (the date, not the actual year-mark... 2 years and 7 months if you are keeping count). We're also expecting our third round of significant snowfall tonight. Heck, the snow from the last storm is still on the ground. Jooj's parent/teacher conferences were cancelled. She snow-danced :)

It was a really great week with the family. Kels was in a great mood. I spent a ton of time with Will. The three of us watched the classic (yet super cheese) "Flash Gordon". Kels and I also watched "Zombieland". Funny, funny stuff.

I'm also the proud owner of the most expensive box I've ever purchased - $742. It's a pretty box. I have it sitting on my bookshelf. It also came with a free icon. And it sits proudly in my dock on my Mac. Oh, and by the way, it opens Adobe Photoshop CS 4 :)

I'm a Basterd

Just finished watching Quentin Tarantino's "Inglorious Basterds" with Jed, Vian, and Jooj. It was awesome - his best yet (yes, kiddos, better than Pulp Fiction... while PF has cemented its place in cinematic history as a pop culture smack in the face while being force-fed genre-spanning stereotypes, it was a bit gimmicky while still trail-blazing... IB is a movie's movie - and while it still has its Tarantino flare it is certainly a movie [and obviously an Oscar-nominated worthy movie]... wow, this whole entry is pretty much encapsulated in parentheses... better stop now before this gets totally out of hand).

Christoph Waltz gets my Oscar vote. Actor in a Supporting Role? Shit, he earns Leading Role in my book.

New brinley.com site

I dug in and crunched through a good deal of repetitive work to get brinley.com into good shape. Check it out...

(Of course, if you click on this link 10 years from now the web site will have totally changed soooo... silly me!)

"If you were sick, why did you go sledding?"

This is what Will asked me Sunday after he and I shared our first sledding experience down "Dog Hill" in Cherokee Park. We had a blast! I had braved the icy roads at 8 o'clock that morning to reach Keith's Hardware and buy two sleds before they sold out. I went home and even started our taxes before heading back out with Will. We passed a stuck car heading up the hill and managed to squeeze into a great parking spot. The wind was bitter but the hill was welcoming. But while the hill was welcoming going down, going up was a different story. I was quickly reminded that I'm nearer to an out-of-shape old man than a spring chicken after a couple of hikes up that hill.

Later the next day, I confessed to the kids that I had been suffering a cold all weekend. After learning this, Will asked, "If you were sick, why did you go sledding?"

I replied, "Son, there are some things a man does even when he is sick. And going sledding with you is one of those things."
